i'm here!!

A weekend away can really mess with the workout schedule!   Missed Thursday's workout but made sure to get Friday's in - which was 30 minutes of snowshoeing and a lot of dancing!  :)  Dancing counts as a work-out ... for sure!

Back home and took Odie for a nice walk in the softly falling snow.  It's pretty mild here today, only -10C    Had to make up for my missed Thursday workout!

Week three starts tomorrow!  Halfway done ... I think I've done pretty good so far!

How is your 20 Day Holiday Workout Challenge going?

uh oh!!

didn't work out today ... noooooooooo!!!  missed my first day ... will have to make it up on the weekend i suppose!  by the time i worked all day - waited and waited for my flight - went to the ugly sweater dinner - checked in to the hotel - went to Wal-Mart ... i am now in bed and totally pooched.

maybe i'll get an extra workout in tomorrow - in addition to the snowshoeing in the afternoon ... can''t fall off the wagon!

week 2 - day 2

decided to forego the run tonight as it continued to be bitterly cold, hovering around -28 again this evening.  also decided to make a real dinner - beef & broccoli stir fry, fried rice and egg rolls (well, those were from a package - we all know how long it takes to make them from scratch!).  so delish!

helped a young'un friend of mine with an assignment for her RPN course by pretending to be a sick patient.  she did an awesome job!  it made me think of those school days which seem so far away - and yet like yesterday - all at the same time.

did this workout from the comfort of my own living room and worked up quite a sweat!  i am still liking this challenge as I often need specific goals to meet to keep me on track.  am hoping to run tomorrow since it's supposed to warm up a bit ... then out to Timmins on Thursday for our work Christmas 'do.  I've been thinking about how to fit in my workouts ... i might run Thursday at lunch then ... oh!  Just remembered that our afternoon activity is snowshoeing so that will definitely count as a workout!

now for some TV watching in my cozy bed ... night!

baby it's cold outside!

Week 2 - Day 1 of the Holiday Workout Challenge.   After a very busy and tiring day at work, I was really feeling like not doing anything at all!  Toyed with the idea of going to fitness, but decided to go for a nice long walk w. Odie and do some at home exercise afterwards.    I got changed and it's almost like my running clothes jumped onto me!  :)  So I changed the plan to do a short jaunt, since it was quite cold out.

Headed out ... and ended up doing almost 5K!  In the coldest it's been so far -21C and -28C with wind chill!!  BRR!  I really need to get me some better winter running tights as my legs were rather cold by the time I got home.

Was nice to be out there on a perfectly clear evening with the moon so bright it was casting a shadow!  I think Odie was sensing wildlife of some sort as he was rather jumpy tonight!

Came home to a nice dinner (thanks President's Choice) and got my house a little more Christmas-y.  Can't believe how quickly it's coming!

fatigued friday!

decided not to brave the cold tonight and did an indoor workout instead!  thanks to Iowa Girl Eats for the inspiration!  am feeling it now - i can tell that i've been slacking on fitness classes lately.  it's amazing how quickly my muscles forget!

this definitely counts as a 20 Day Holiday Workout ... but maybe (depending on how the day goes) i'll run tomorrow.  it's supposed to warm up a bit so it might be nice to have a leisurely run.

heading out to youth group in a few ... gotta enjoy this cup of coffee first.

have a great weekend!

busy thursday!

PTL that tomorrow is Friday!  i need a weekend ... not that this one is looking like it will be quiet - but i need to sleep in!

this is going to be a short entry.  i did get day 4 done - took a long lunch since I was working late tonight at flu clinic.  did a 4.27K run - the sun was beautiful, roads were pretty good - but the wind!  yikes!  -23C windchill which was not so fun on the way into town, but nice to have at my back heading home!

and now for dinner- i know - so late (but tasty!) and bed.  i'm capital T tired.

what is one thing you are looking forward to this weekend?

i just felt like running ...

super crazy day at work today - quite draining but i knew i had to get out there and run tonight!  the weather cooperated and was only about -5C.  got geared up and headed out - with my Odester of course!

got to the usual turn around for my 5k route ... but wanted to keep running so i did!  ended up doing 7.59K in one hour.  i notice that my pace is quite a bit slower running in the snow, but I like just doing it and not worrying about pace.  felt good to be out there tonight - the quiet calm was really needed.

i'm liking this running in the cold so far!  oh - outfit was perfect today!  for those of you who are wondering - lol - if there are actually any readers! - i wore a short sleeve wicking top, a long sleeve top (with thumb holes - my fave) and my MEC running coat ... with the ugly vest on top of course!  safety first!  ditched the fleece lined aka falling down tights for leggings under my nice Nike running pants.  a neck warmer and a wide headband completed the ensemble.  pretty perfect temperature wise.

and now to do some dishes before i crash for the night.

If you're participating in the 20 Day Holiday Workout Challenge, how is it going?

silent night ...

lovely evening for a run!   The sky filled with stars over head and the moon leading the way, good Christmas tunes in my ear and Odie by my side, heading to a good friend's for coffee!  couldn't ask for much more.

The temperature was about -10C tonight and I ran 3K total.   The clothing situation was a bit better but I still need to work that out.  Definitely need to get warm tights with a drawstring, so I'm not hiking up my pants as I go along!

Day 2/20 done!

What did you see today that was truly beautiful?

First snow run ever!

Headed out with Odie last night for what I thought would be our regular walk.  I did wear my running shoes, as there isn't quite enough snow yet for boots.  Got going then thought "maybe I should just try to run!".  So I did - and it was great!  Wasn't too cold, around -4C.  I was not dressed appropriately - way too hot on the way back - b/c I hadn't planned on running, so had to stop at a friend's store to off load my scarf - thanks Denice!  :)

Got 5K done in about 44 minutes which is quite a bit slower than my normal pace.  It was so nice being out there and I think Odie liked it too!  Perhaps I'll keep on this winter running thing for awhile!

I have committed to the 20 Day Holiday Workout Challenge which came from this great blog that I follow.  The basic idea is to work out every day for the 20 working days before Christmas.   So I've completed 1/20 so far ... I might have to get creative to get those workouts in, especially as the temperature drops!

It's a beautiful sunny day right now, I'm wishing I had a flexible work day so I could run right now!  Alas, must get back to work in 20 minutes.

What are some ways you plan on staying active this holiday season?

gotta chuckle at myself - watching The Biggest Loser and eating chips!  :)  I can tell myself that it's a reward for running tonight - but really, I should get my healthy eating back on track!

talk about muddy runners!  we have had 6 days of rain so the roads are horrible!  yesterday was a bad run - I felt good physically but the MUCK on the roads just made me cranky!  Odie was also filthy - I guess I should focus on the positive that I ran 4k and felt good.  :)  I think I need to start running the whole thing - I still walk some, not a lot but I could probably push through.

today was scheduled to be a 4.82K run but I ended up doing 5.4K ... kept to the dry roads this time so my runners and my dog were happier!  tomorrow is a 7.24 then Sat is 9.65 ... which doesn't intimidate me that much, as I was able to do over 9K last week.

when i tell people i am training to run a 10K, so many people say "wow that's awesome!" or "that's a big thing" ... it's funny b/c I really don't think it is.  maybe i need to be prouder of what i'm accomplishing - to give myself credit for doing something.  i just keep thinking that anyone could do it, if they wanted to!  :)

been awhile since i've posted on here!  since that time, i've completed the CIBC Run for the Cure 5k run - raising $820 towards breast cancer research.  i am always so impressed with how generous my community is!   Getting that 5k done made me think about the goal of running a 10k by my 32nd birthday - which is November 3rd.  I decided to give it a whirl and have completed 2 weeks of this program.

Saturdays are my long runs and both have been very interesting so far!  Last Saturday was an unseasonably warm day - but SUPER windy!  We spent the day at Charles Island celebrating my sister Heather & my niece Isabella's birthdays.  Didn't get home until 5ish - had another birthday do at 7:30.  I was scheduled to run 8km and was almost deterred by the wind gusts of 60km!  Pushed through and got it done in 56 minutes.  i'm pretty consistent with the 7 min/km.

Today - the 2nd Saturday - was an 8.85km run.  it's been a gorgeous fall so far, but today marked the first of many days of rain!   After a leisurely AM - great sleep in 'til 1130! - got going around 3pm.   The run into town was not so great - big winds, stinging rain - but getting home was a lot better.  Felt great - with the exception of David Wynne road - yikes!  Good tunes kept me going - and I didn't even get to my latest fave by Beyonce!  Ended up running 9.16km at a pace of 6:5-something .. yay me!  definitely christened my new shoes ... i guess that's what runners are supposed to look like anyways!

Fall has definitely arrived here in the Moose.  Beautiful warm days followed by grey rainy days.  Today is a grey day - has been raining on & off all day.  I'm glad I got a run in last evening - it was perfectly still, no wind at all, the roads were nice and dry.  I find the smells of fall so distinct ... reminds me so much of Moose River.  Makes me miss it a lot!

Was home sick from work today so won't be heading out this evening.  A bike ride/walk was on the schedule, but this will have to wait for another day.  Poor Odie keeps looking at me ... waiting to go ... not today buddy!

Made some delicious soup for dinner - creamy broccoli & mushroom!  So easy and super delish - especially with cheese sprinkled on top and a side of naan bread.  Now ... if I knew how to share the recipe I would - let me see...  Creamy Broccoli Mushroom Soup

Well, I think I'll make a hot cup of coffee before heading out to prayer meeting - have a good evening all!
